Pooraka Farm Community Centre

Strengthening communities at Pooraka Farm

Pooraka Farm Community Centre provides local community members essential spaces for group activities and learning. It features a modern computer suite and courses designed for all skill levels. The hall is a welcoming space for Children's Playgroup, Yoga, Keep Fit, Language and Literacy classes and even Leadlighting courses.

As part of the City of Salisbury Council's capital renewal program, the then-27-year-old Community Centre was identified as a building sorely in need of an upgrade.

All our community centres have a huge impact on our people in the surrounding areas. Be it senior citizens, people wanting to take computer classes, or the many community members participating in council-run classes and events.

A methodology to meet tight council requirements

With the City of Salisbury managing up to 900 similar projects a year, they required a builder who could handle the project and any challenges independently.

The council also had a high standard of requirements for resources, timeframe and impact on the community. Thanks to our comprehensive methodology and strong track record of delivering successful council projects, we were successfully able to meet the brief.

We chose PBS because they ticked all the boxes. Their price was very competitive and we had the utmost confidence in their delivery of this project.

Meeting tight timeframes

The community centre is where local residents gathered, made connections and became involved in their community. Every day without the facility meant programs couldn’t run. PBS had a project supervisor who communicated effectively between the council and the on-site team and helped ensure the project kept to the tight timeline required.

Using local area trades

A critical requirements was that the project engaged as many Northern area suppliers where possible. Thanks to our strong connections to contractors in the local area, we engaged a suppliers who delivered high quality work while helping grow the local economy.

Pricing and variations

Projects funded with community money must always adhere to strict budgets. Having previously worked with the City of Salisbury on many projects, PBS understood this fundamental requirement and provided highly competitive pricing. We took care to communicate any variations and keep costs as low as possible.

They held to timelines very well, and if there were any delays, they would communicate immediately.

Community benefits felt widely

The Pooraka Farm Community Centre is now a fresh new building, providing the community with a space for learning and recreation for the next 15 to 20 years.

Premier Building Solutions took a tired old building and gave it a new lease on life; as a result they have had an amazing impact on the community. Our brand new facility will allow us to continue holding these much-needed community events to many years to come.
